the retro wedding dance.

I have something to admit to you…I love Big Brother.  I have watched it since the beginning, and even followed it on its move from Channel 4 to Channel 5 with undeterred viewing.  I am not ashamed to admit that I can remember most of the housemates that have won, and that my favourite series was 5, you know the one with the big ‘fight night’, all stemming from Michelle and Emma appearing from under a couple of cloches having spent a few days in the bedsit, unbeknownst to the other housemates.  (Dramatic.)  And I know I’m not the only one still watching. Am I?

Anyhoo, there is a point to this ramble…Celebrity Big Brother is currently on our screens, and amongst the rabble of slightly known people from other sort of reality TV shows from various places in the country; Essex, Chelsea, Newcastle, are some people that have achieved celebrity status, albeit are now a little bit retro.  This brings me nicely on to one of this years CBB housemates, Edele from B*witched, the song ‘Rollercoaster’ and in particular the dance for said song, circa 1998.  Now, for some reason, maybe because he wasn’t a teenage girl in the 90’s, I don’t know, Rich (Mr. love wedding dance) didn’t know the dance?!  Weird!  So I showed him, arm waving and hair swishing included.  Much laughing ensued (from him), and even a quick look at the video to ensure my correct interpretation.  Needless to say, he was impressed.  For those of you who aren’t as geeky as me, here’s a reminder.  (On this occasion, I played the role of Keevy, the one at the back of the rollercoaster.)

Anyway, the point I’m slowly rambling around to with this slightly tedious link is: retro wedding dances!  Using Bands/Singers/Routines from your childhood that, when you hear them now, still make you so so happy.  Of course, different growing up eras will bring different groups and songs to the forefront, and won’t be all about the Britney’s, Backstreet Boys, Steps, and my personal favourite, Five.  But how about thinking back to your childhood and which bands and songs link you and your bride/groom together and basing your first dance on this.  Just a little thought that, if you are looking for an original idea for your wedding dance, this might just help you along a little.

I like this couple’s NSync music and routine, especially the puppet bit!

Thanks for reading!  Victoria x
